24 Interludes of Life

Greetings My People,

I found this poem online and thought it would be an awesome declaration of thinking for the "08". The author of this poem is unknown for I take no creidt of scripting it, but only finding it. The poem speaks for itself and I am soooooooooooooooooo confident that more than 1 or 2 of the interludes can be applied to you and someone you know.. Enough talk, get to readin... :o)

24 Interludes of Life
1. Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth even thatfades away. Go for someone who makes you smile.
2. There are moments in life when you really miss someone that you wantto pick them up from your dreams and hug them. Hope you dream of thatsomeone.
3. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what youwant to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all thethings you want in life.
4. May you have...Enough happiness to make you sweet Enough trials tomake you strong Enough sorrow to keep you human Enough hope to make youhappy And enough money to keep you comfortable.
5. When one door of happiness closes, another opens. But we often tookso long at the closed door, that we don't see the one which has beenopened for us.
6. The best kind of friend is the one you could sit on a porch, swingwith, never saying a word and then walk away feeling like that was thebest conversation you've had.
7. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, butit's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.
8. Always put yourself in other's shoes. If you feel that it hurts you,it probably does hurt the person too.
9. A careless word may kindle a strife; A cruel word may wreck a life Atimely word may level stress A lovely word may heal and bless.
10. The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectlythemselves and not to twist them with our own image, otherwise we loveonly the reflection of ourselves we find in them.
11. The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes along the way.
12. Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting theright one so that when we finally meet the right person, we should knowhow to be grateful for that gift.
13. It takes a minute to have a crush on someone, an hour to likesomeone and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forgetsomeone.
14. Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who havesearched and those who have tried. For only they can appreciate theimportance of people who have touched their lives.
15. Love is when you take away the feeling, the passion, the romance andfind out you still care for that person.
16. A sad thing about life is that when you meet someone who means a lotto you only to find out in the end that it was never bound to be andyou just have to let go.
17. Love starts with a smile, develops with a kiss and ends with a tear.
18. Love comes to those who still hope even though they've beendisappointed, to those who still believe even though they've beenbetrayed, need to love those who still love, even though they've beenhurt before.
19. It hurts to love someone, and not to be loved in return but what ismost painful is to love someone and never finds the courage to let theperson know how you feel.
20. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. Youcan't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures andheartaches.
21. Never say goodbye when you still want to try; Never give up when youstill feel you can take it; Never say you don't love that person anymorewhen you can't let go.
22. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll loveyou back. Don't expect love in return, just wait for it to grow intheir hearts but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.
23. There are things you love to hear but you would never hear it fromthe person whom you would like to hear it from, but don't be deaf tohear it from the person who says it with his heart.
24. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you wassmiling. Live your life to the fullest so that when you die, you'resmiling and everyone around you is crying.

The Debate of Purpose

"Trust thyself. Every heart vibrates to that iron string."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

My mom and I went to see the movie "The Great Debators" the day after christmas. Oh my gosh , what a phenomenal movie. Not only was this film prolific from a historical standpoint, but inspiring for the individualistic perspective on a forever quest of intellectual enhancement.

While amusing to some, meloncholy to me,the fact that our people lack the drive not all, but some lack the thirst and hunger to excel and to be challenged and to challenge, to fight, to critique, to assure oursleves as well as others.

We (my fellow poetry fam, friends, poets and writers of the universe) inhabit the ability to apply the most captivating gift that not all have, which is the expressions, the convictions, and the passions with our words, rather written, spoken, or delivered.

These few thoughts are equally important concepts to ponder on:

  • Conquering the mind over the body, not the body over the mind

  • Although we as black americans instilled to be weak minded, one must prevail with an equal balanced determination of mind, body and soul

  • If our minds generate the passion(s) of our soul, words are greater than great.

The Greatest Gift

I woke up this Christmas even morning to discover that there was a full moon. Yep, a full moon. And with that vision being plain to my eyes, I had a full percpective derived in my mind, that Christmas is what you make of it and whom you make it with- just as love. Cherish the moments you have with the people you love and hold onto every second of it.

My most fondest memories of Christmas are those when I was younger of my grandfather. Those moments I shared with him were priceless and if I could get just one second of one minute back with him, that would be the greatest gift. THE greatest gift.

So I urge everyone to hold onto every moment you have with the ones you love. Yeah, gifts are cool and shopping is fun, but truth is, gifts, they come and go. But the memories last a lifetime. The greatest gift is LOVE. So this christmas- "give" a lil love, "share" a lil love and "embrace" a lil love.

Merry Christmas To All.
Peace & Blessings

4get The Naysayers & Underachievers

Mood: Jaded/Exhausted BUT Optimistic
Musical Selection of Choice : Charlie Parker

Ok, so my day got off to a crazy exhausting start. Although I've been up practically all night furthering my knowledge-- doing my online classwork that is, and stricken with determination nt to quit, not to give up although the difficulty of technical glitches presented severl haults in competion of some task, I decided to take a break. Upon mentally breaking my mind that is was oh so jaded, I went to work to work to complete some previous tasks there.. Well one technicality led to another technicality that led to frozen screens--- oh the wonderful world of computer :-{ No matter how much we try and at times place faith in them, we mut be reminded that these mechanical devices have a mind of their own and at times pick the most uncomprimising occasion to play tricks on you. To make a long story short, I had entered "frozenville" , a frozen screen doing absoutlely nuthin. After I came to grips with myself that hey you can't make it work, stop, you've done all you can.. I reluctantly pull myself away from the computer and left. I decided, hey I've been up all night I'm going to grab some breakfast and go home and go to sleep.. Well I called up my bestest goodest true blue freind I call Pumpkin, and we met for some breakfast.. Here I was thinking another routinem meal with great company with great convo... I was right but oh my gosh you never know what you're in store for. One of his friends joined us and we begin talking about the ever popular topic- LIFE. And as I listened during the convo, I digested the words of wisdom and enlightenment, His friend, said sometimes we get caught up in folks throwing the negatives at us that we forget to let those aspects fall along our side and focus on the positive. He used a concept/analogy that if/when the whirlwinds approach you, jsut as quick as those negatvie variables are thrown in the storm, you throw them back out jsut as quick and hold onto the positive. I thought to myself, WOW! :-0 great concept and I immediately made mental notes to jot that one down in the front of my brain. Family, friends, co-workers, church folk, even your neighbors too can sometimes hate on you and find fault in what you do, how you do, when you do where you do what it is that you do for you, but truth is and the idea we mus remind ourselves is this: those folks are put here on this earth to produce a drive in us to try harder, to want more, to excel and to determine ourselves and apply dilligence in what it is we desire to pursue and achieve in life. I jsut thought of Jill Scott's song, Hate on Me Haters.. I read/heard that haters do just what they are suppose to do- HATE. As long as they're hating, this means you are doing something worthwile that they simply cannot fathom or even apply themselves to try to even think of. We all are faced with obstacles everyday all the time, but how do you cope, how do you fight back, how do you maintain sanity and a peace of mind? I admit I sometimes feel so overwhelmed with to-do's that I sometimes I can hardly think straight, then theres the ongoing scrutniy from some that surround me that are oh my gosh, incredibly closed minded and constantly seeing the glass half empty vs. half full. But I'm pledging to thank them naysayers and underachievers, cause see, its because of them I strive so hard and will always continuously see that glass half-full and see the rainbow at the end of the storm even if it is far away in the distance.

What Makes A Family

I heard a line on/in my favorite movie ~ Love Jones on the concept of love. Statement: "Love is what and with whom you make it with". But my greeatest gift this year was finding and discovering an extended family. Family sharing similar passions and goals, that being the love of one of the greatest arts ~ POETRY. And this year I was blessed with my poetry family.

I am an only child and well throughotut my life I have have always clung to cousins as siblings in the past and as I grew up my freinds were the siblings in my life. But we all know that time comes along, and well sometimes you simply just grow apart. Individuals are in your life at the time in your life that they are needed to be, that's a ll apart of the divine design of the most high. But see despite what people think, family doesnt't rely only in genetics. And for once in my life, I finally feel apart of something, spectacular. I can honestly say I have never felt that way- ever.

Not only do I feel within the core of my spirit, mind and heart that I belong but more importantly I'm seen for me and accepted for "simply" being me, loved and admired for "simply" being me. I can sincerely express that I love my poetry family. Not only have I met some spectacular, talented indviduals, but the kindred spirits and unique bonds that have been one of my many blessings. Family is what and who you chose them to be. Family extends farther than blood relation- it relies in the spirit of love and acceptance.

Free Spirit

{This is from Sunday Morning}

I woke up with an agenda today yet after one digression to the next, followed by technicalities. I decided today I'm on my own schedule with no set itenerary. As I strolled in Barnes & Noble, I had an ephiphany~for once "Be Free" and carousel like there's no tommorrow and to do the following:

  • Don't look or concern myself with the time

  • Neglect thoughts of a to-do list

  • Enjoythe day

  • Sieze the day and like calgon~ let it take you (me) away into sheer bliss, into a tailormade utopia

So, as I sipped on a sample of a starbucks peppermint white chocolate dream, "For Once", at this very moment I felt FREE.

Until my next post... Peace, Love Prosperity & Endless Blessings!

DO YOU!

Peace, Love & Endless Blessings People:

As a I paused for a brief moment at work I found myself beginning to wallow in semi-self pity, I begin to dwell on things that I know must work themselves out, I felt as if I were about to burst into tears. But a dear friend reminded me of something I know far to well… No matter what you're going thru, someone's always in a state worst than you. And worry not to things you cant change but live your life and just simply –be happy. I'm now reminded of Steve Harvey's closing remarks on yesterday's show. Two words that were instantly embedded on my brain after hearing them --- he said, "DO YOU"
I jotted down some notes from the show and here they are….

~ Haters will come and they do just what they're meant to do – HATE
~ Don't allow haters or naysayers to block your view and goals
~ In Every aspect of your life remember to –DO YOU

~ Although the haters will approach you and criticize and question you – do your BEST
~ Throughout the whole years long and the holidays –DO YOU

~ Do what "you" are capable of doing- DO YOU & BE YOU (in other words be yourself
~ The devil don't wanna see you do good, that's his job- but no matter what –
DO YOU
~ Remember to DO YOU all the time
~ Last but not least, keep God first and foremost in your life
~
DO YOU, DO YOU, DO YOU!
In conclusion, in the midst of writing this I got a few text messages from a few friends that simply called to say hello and then my friend Dawn(hope you don't mind sis) told me see how the devil will have you feeling hopeless then God will step in right on time… I am reminded of the scripture – "…Weeping may endure for a night, but JOY cometh in the morning" ~Psalms 30:5
Until then, peace & blessings my people, peace & blessings.
